VALERA and NATASHA Cherkashin

Valera and Natasha Cherkashins are contemporary artists of global scale. Valera is originally from Kharkiv, Natasha from Damascus, and they currently live and work in Moscow and New York.

Valera and Natasha Cherkashins are renowned Soviet, Russian, and American conceptual artists, photographers, and performance artists, working as a duo since 1983. They have held over 200 solo exhibitions, gaining fame for their exploration of cultural codes of the USSR, Russia, and the West through photography, installations, and performances.

Valera received a remarkable education in Russian avant-garde, working with the Sterligov group (a student of Malevich).

2016 – Maya Brin Residency Program Grant, University of Maryland, USA.

2013 – Lifetime grant to Natalia Cherkashina from the Russian Federation for free artistic creation.

2011 – Award from the Friends of the United Nations and the Chinese government for original global work in art.
